Lindsay Heights Neighborhood Health Alliance
The Alliance is a gathering of community-anchored groups, neighbors, friends and partners that promote and serve as a resource for health. We define health as a personal and community condition that reflects the fullest attainment and expression of physical, mental, environment, spiritual, and economic potential. The Alliance works in the Lindsay Heights area to reduce health disparities and create a deep and sustained culture of health and community sufficiency in our families and neighborhood.
On August 20th the Alliance held a Cook Out for its quarterly meeting. Healthy food was shared while neighbors gathered to hear about local programming and participate in healthy activities like hula-hooping and jump rope contests. Despite the thunderstorm, many gathered at the Bread of Healing Clinic to participate.
Three Lindsay Heights organizations were highlighted:
- LaVarnway Boys and Girls Club Keystone Scholarship Program,
- Dream Bikes Bike Training and Teen Program, and
- YMCA (Y) Senior Silver Sneakers Program.
Guests participated in the raffle and two lucky winners received a bike from Dream Bikes and a week pass to the Y. The evening was centered around helping residents and community partners navigate a renewed resolution of physical activity.
Dinner was prepared by two local winners of the Fondy Bar-B-Que challenge: Simuel Wilburn (current resident) and Freddie Williams (former resident). Food, fellowship, and focused conversation about healthy activities was a winning combination. For more information about the Alliance call Maanaan at (414) 264-2326.
