Dear Friends,
The King Holiday is more important than we could ever imagine for several reasons. Martin Luther King Day reminds us to appreciate that we are one nation of diverse people with unique cultural gifts and talents. It also reminds us that we can heal…and errors of the past can be corrected both in our government and our individual beliefs and values. King Day also directs our attention toward the possibility of a brighter future shaped and shared by all.
As we recognize the legacy one of America’s greatest hero’s Walnut Way is not only inspired by his leadership but also by Dr. Kings power to heal. In the neighborhoods we serve there is a need for more healers and practitioners who inspire behaviors that produce wellness in families and individuals that have been conditioned to survive in economically and socially isolated communities.
At Walnut Way we are working to transform neighborhoods and create spaces that allow access to healers and wellness practitioners as a natural part of the community. With the ground breaking for the Innovations & Wellness Commons Phase II happening 2019 we are on stable path to fulfill this vision of wellness for Lindsay Heights and residents across the city of Milwaukee.
Disinvestment on Milwaukee near north-side has produced resilient residents in communities like Lindsay Heights. Walnut Way is striving to enhance the our residents ability to develop and deploy adaptable solutions that meet the needs and interest of the community based on the environmental, economic and social circumstances that exist.
Walnut Way is grateful for Dr. Kings legacy and inspired by his dream. Our mission is to sustain transformation and create economically diverse and abundant communities. We are helping residents recover, adapt and grow a more cohesive interconnected community that leads residents toward an improve standard of living and sustainable “higher” quality of life that designed and implemented by residents.
We encourage you to continue to lead from where you live in your community in 2019 and carry forth Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy. Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Warmest Regards,
Antonio Butts,
Executive Director,
