Teen Spotlight: Teens Grow Greens interns work with Urban Agriculture Coordinator, Angela Kingsawan, twice a week in the gardens. Angela incorporates workshops into their visits to enhance their learning in the gardens. Last week, the teens learned about the medicinal properties of herbs and flowers and created a cool tea using flower petals and herbs.

Volunteer and Outreach Spotlights
Free Community Garden Spaces for Residents Walnut Way has designated an entire vacant lot for Lindsay Heights residents to grow their own food this summer, for free. There’s still time to plant seeds and take advantage of the many months ahead. Even in the cold weather you can grow cold crops like broccoli and kale. So get started now! Space is limited and reserved for Lindsay Heights community members. To sign up, please contact Angela at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 414-264-2326 ext. 23.
Volunteer Spotlight: Sierra is joining us this summer in the gardens to complete her AmeriCorps service hours. She is working at Boys and Girls Club for her service term. Thank you Sierra.
Volunteer in the Gardens The cherry harvest is almost ready for harvest and we need your support. Sign up to volunteer and we will contact you when the harvest is ready. You can also volunteer in the gardens as needed or on a regular basis.
For more information about our volunteer program, please email Deaduri Gales and Angela Kingsawan at email@example.com and firstname.lastname@example.org.
Order your cherries and rose petals ahead of time Walnut Way is currently taking orders for cherries ($3 per pint/$24 per case, 10 pints) and red rose petals ($2 per oz.). Contact Angela if interested at email@example.com.
Visit us at the Fondy Farmers Market
On Saturday, Walnut Way began its first attendance at the Fondy Farmers Market where we sold beets, spinach, and kale. You can visit Walnut Way staff and the Growing Youth Leadership interns each week on Saturdays from 8am-2pm. Fondy Farmers Market is located at 2200 W. Fond du Lac Avenue.
Outreach Volunteer Spotlight Big thank you to volunteers Troney Small, his daughter Anaya and their little helpers for distributing Wellness Kits to the community last week with the Walnut Way team. Wellness Kits included items to support mental health and long term quarantine including: jump ropes, stress balls, coloring sheets, smudge sticks (made by Angela Kingsawan), masks, resource lists, fruit, and hand sanitizer. Most of the materials in the kits were donated thanks to Anthem and fruit from Pete’s Market.
