Our mission is centered around "Community-Led Comprehensive Development." We foster wellness through various initiatives such as our Wellness Commons space, senior home repair program, and advocacy for fair energy policies. By creating a safe and healthy environment, we empower residents to actively participate in decision-making processes and community activities. Through initiatives like our green infrastructure programs, residential and commercial energy efficiency pilots, and our green jobs initiative, we provide opportunities for meaningful work that also contributes to a more sustainable environment. We support small businesses, administer a neighborhood improvement district, and rehabilitate residential foreclosures into affordable homeownership opportunities. An index tracks wellbeing of African Americans in Milwaukee and incorporates remote health monitoring devices—like Fitbits and glucose monitors—to guide Walnut Way interventions, target chronic disease management, and measure community health outcomes. 2020 - Lindsay Heights, Northwestern Mutal Data Science Project This plan focuses on leveraging data science to drive social change. Walnut Way can use this resource to inform its decision-making processes, track the impact of its programs, and identify areas where further intervention might be needed. 2010 Lindsay Heights Zilber Quality of Life Plan This plan offers a comprehensive approach to improving quality of life in select Milwaukee neighborhoods, including Lindsay Heights. Our Services Blue Skies focuses on our greatest assets – our people. We offer job training in landscape horticulture for staff. The program provides job training and employment for individuals who have traditionally faced employment barriers and those seeking to build skills in a growing trade area. The program also provides a sustainable source of earned income for Walnut Way and serves as a powerful vehicle for individual and community transformation. The impact extends beyond traditional job training programs as residents of the community are employed to help renovate once-vacant properties into community assets and serve as mentors to neighborhood youth who witness us working to lift up Lindsay Heights. "A Whole Home Approach" Green Infrastructure, Energy Efficiency, Broadband, Home Ownership Access and Affordability for Everyone Pilots, Projects and & Programs Our community-led 'Whole Home Approach' focuses on rehabilitating houses in poor condition, aiding seniors to age in place, and ensuring homes are lead-free and energy efficient. One of our key objectives is to collaborate with landlords to enhance the condition and quality of properties, while also creating affordable home ownership opportunities. Beyond direct interventions, we also advocate for fair energy policies, engaging with the Public Service Commission and intervening in rate cases to address the energy burden on low-income households. < Back Resilient Resident Affordable WIFI Walnut Way Conservation Corp is launching a community-driven initiative to bridge the digital divide in underserved areas of Milwaukee. We invite partner organizations and multi-unit apartment complexes to collaborate with us by hosting our antennas on their properties. This partnership will enable us to provide free public Wi-Fi access to residents, enhancing digital equity and promoting community development. Benefits of Partnership Free Public Wi-Fi : Residents will have access to a free tier of internet service with speeds of 100/20 Mbps, ensuring basic connectivity for all. Enhanced Connectivity : We will install Wi-Fi hotspots across participating projects, providing reliable internet access throughout the community. Digital Literacy Support : Our Digital Navigator program offers device setup assistance, troubleshooting, and digital skills training to ensure residents can fully utilize the new digital resources. As a Café Team member, you will play a key role in upholding our mission to delivering a welcoming, inclusive environment where customers feel valued and connected. Duties and Essential Responsibilities: Customer Satisfaction Greet each customer with a warm and inviting smile and welcome. · Strive to exceed expectations with each of our customers, building rapport with each interaction; use customers' names whenever possible. Become knowledgeable about products in order to make recommendations that meet our customers’ needs. Maintain sense of urgency while keeping attention to details during peak hours Delivering Quality Prepares food items as directed while following health, safety and sanitization guidelines Follows recipes, portion controls, and presentation specifications as set by the cafe. Ability to re-stock all items and move effortlessly between active team members Completing inventory count daily of food, plasticware, disposables and cleaning supplies. Picks up and/or ensure delivery of inventory. Operate POS system with efficiency and ease. Safety & Sanitation Sets up station according to café guidelines. Cleans and maintains stations while practicing good safety, sanitation, organizational skills. Has understanding and knowledge to properly use and maintain all equipment and knives in station. Assists with the cleaning, sanitation, and organization of kitchen, coolers, and all storage areas. < Back LaVonda Graham Board Chair LaVonda Graham, Board Chair of Walnut Way, has been a resident of Lindsay Heights for over 50 years. Throughout this time, she has volunteered in various capacities, including as a VISTA Community Organizer for Norwest Action Council. President Graham has effectively guided Walnut Way through the transition of its founding members and the completion of the Innovations and Wellness Commons Phase II Development. In addition the creation of the Lindsay Heights - Neighbohrood Improvment District #12 has been implemented and approved by the City of Milwaukee under her leadership.
