Speaker Bio:
- T.R. Williams is a lawyer and mediator by education, training, and practice. Through experiences in group facilitation, strategic planning, political appointments, legal advocacy, lobbying, and mediation work, she has mastered effective communication through diverse audiences. T.R. prides herself in her ability to communicate across barriers of culture, values, ideas, and politics to create allies and unite people under one mission.
About the Workshop:
- The workshop will begin with a presentation of the historical legal framework that informs fundamental policies that shape how the United States operates today. Once this foundation has been set, we’ll dive into learning and understanding the civic process and the power structures at play. We will then learn the tools that we can use to influence systems and shift power structures.
Learning Outcomes
- Describe what policy is and who makes it
- Describe how a bill becomes a law in Wisconsin
- Define advocacy, power mapping, coalition building, and narrative curation
