Position Summary Walnut Way Overall Responsibilities: The Community Wealth Building (CWB) Manager plays a pivotal role in facilitating economic well-being for the Lindsay Heights neighborhood. This role entails three primary responsibilities: 1) collaborating with residents and organizations to mobilize the skills, passions, and talents of the community; 2) oversee digital literacy programs implementation; and 3) managing and promoting social enterprises and programs that support wealth-building activities. Through these efforts, the CWB Manager will drive neighborhood economic growth and connect residents with valuable opportunities and resources. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Community Wealth Building Manager: Share the CWB story and advocate for the asset-based approach to economic development with residents, community organizations, and partners. Engage residents and organizations in the Community Wealth Building process, ensuring active participation and buy-in. Collaborate with community partners to co-create and connect residents to opportunities and resources for economic empowerment. Attend weekly CWB team meetings, providing updates on activities, challenges, and outcomes. Analyze asset data using established tools and systems to inform decision-making. Other duties as assigned. Digital Literacy Program: Oversee the design, implementation, and management of digital literacy programs aimed at empowering residents with essential digital skills. Track and evaluate the effectiveness of the digital literacy programs, providing reports and insights for continuous improvement. Create a variety of program formats to accommodate different learning needs: o Short workshops (1-2 days) for specific skills o Multi-week courses (6-8 weeks) for comprehensive digital literacy o Ongoing drop-in sessions for personalized support. Establish cohort-based learning groups to nurture peer support and accountability. Incorporate hands-on, project-based learning to make skills immediately applicable. He has played a key role in neighborhood revitalization and building projects at Walnut Way and previously served as Volunteer Coordinator at Mercy Memorial Baptist Church, managing daily meal preparation for over 100 children. Samuel holds a PhD from Grace Christian College, is a State Licensed Mental Health & Substance Abuse Counselor, and is certified in Advanced Child and Youth Care and Case Management from UW–Milwaukee. He is also licensed by the City of Milwaukee for development and contracting work. Program Overview: Environmental Stewardship is a core program of Walnut Way Conservation Corp, where residents have transformed vacant lots into production gardens and orchards. Walnut Way operates sub-acre production gardens and teaching gardens, promoting urban agriculture as a means to provide fresh, locally grown foods. The program integrates wholesale fresh produce and herbs into Walnut Way’s community market, Taste of Lindsay Heights , to support sustainable local food systems. Basic Function: The Urban Agriculture Coordinator manages all aspects of Walnut Way’s urban agriculture program, overseeing farming operations from land preparation to harvest, and works to align the program’s produce for sale and preparation at Taste of Lindsay Heights . This role requires expertise in horticulture, program management, and administrative skills. Essential Work Objectives 1. Horticulture Operations Day-to-Day Growing Operations: Coordinate and implement all aspects of growing operations on the urban Milwaukee-based campus. Planting and Production Plans: Develop planting layouts, crop selection, timing, and succession plans. Seed and Starter Plant Management: Inventory, order, and start seeds; order starter plants when necessary. Field Management: Cultivate fields, amend soils, and manage crop maintenance tasks such as: o Weeding and pest control o Watering/irrigation o Trellising and staking o Pruning and training plants Harvest and Post-Harvest Handling: Oversee the harvesting, post-harvest handling, and storage of crops to ensure product quality.
